Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a centrally acting antitussive drug that inhibits the cough center in the medulla oblongata, producing an antitussive effect. Its antitussive effect is equal to or slightly stronger than that of codeine, and long-term use is non-addictive and non-tolerable. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases secretion of respiratory glands, diluting sputum and making it easier to expectorate.
