English Name: Acipimox Capsules
Chinese Pinyin: Aximosi jiaonang

[Ingredients]
Acipimox.

[Properties]
This product is a capsule containing white or off-white granules.

[Indications]
This product is used to treat hypertriglyceridemia (type IV), hypercholesterolemia (type IIa), and combined hypertriglyceridemia (type IIb).

[Dosage and Administration]
The recommended dose is one capsule two to three times daily, taken with or after meals. The lower dose is used for type IV hypertriglyceridemia, while the higher dose is used for types IIa and IIb hypercholesterolemia. Improvement in blood lipid profiles is generally seen within one month of treatment. International literature reports that a safe daily dose of up to 1200 mg is recommended for long-term use.

[Adverse Reactions]
This product may cause skin vasodilation and increased heat sensitivity, such as facial hot flashes or pruritus, in the initial stages of treatment. These symptoms usually disappear within a few days of treatment and do not require discontinuation. Moderate gastrointestinal reactions (heartburn, upper abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea), as well as headache, dry eyes, and urticaria have occasionally been reported. A very small number of patients have experienced local or systemic allergic reactions (such as rash, urticaria, maculopapular rash, lip edema, asthma-like dyspnea, hypotension, etc.). The drug should be discontinued immediately and symptomatic treatment should be sought.

[Drug Interactions]
If overdose toxicity is observed, provide monitoring and systemic supportive care.

[Pharmacological Actions]
Acipimox is a derivative of niacin that inhibits the breakdown of adipose tissue. It reduces the release of free fatty acids from adipose tissue, thereby decreasing triglyceride (TG) synthesis in the liver. By inhibiting the synthesis of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), it lowers blood triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) concentrations. It also inhibits hepatic lipase activity, reducing the breakdown of high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
