Literature reports that clindamycin phosphate suppositories (equivalent to 100 mg of clindamycin) are inserted into the vagina, 1 capsule at a time, once a day. The absolute bioavailability measured on the third day is approximately 30% of the administered dose. The average AUC is 3.2 μg?hr/ml (0.42-11 μg?hr/ml), the average Cmax is 0.27 μg/ml (0.03-0.67 μg /ml), and the average apparent elimination half-life is 11 hours (4-35 hours). The vaginal dose is much lower than oral and intravenous administration. Clindamycin 100 mg per day, used for 3 consecutive days is equivalent to 30 mg absorbed per day.
