This drug is a novel gastric acid secretion inhibitor. It acts on the H+-K+-ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells, preventing H+ from being transported into the stomach. This significantly reduces the amount of gastric acid in gastric juice. It is clinically used to treat duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, reflux esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (gastrinoma). It has significant efficacy and inhibits Helicobacter pylori.
