[Drug Interactions]
1. Taking this product with antibiotics (amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin, doxycycline) may increase the concentration of antibiotics in lung tissue. 2. If you are taking other medications, consult your physician or pharmacist before using this product.
[Pharmacological Actions]
(1) Stimulates bronchial mucous glands, increasing the secretion of neutral mucopolysaccharides, reducing the synthesis and metabolism of acidic mucopolysaccharides, thereby normalizing the physical and chemical properties of respiratory mucus and facilitating its excretion.
(2) Stimulates alveolar epithelial cells and Clara cells, promoting the synthesis and secretion of alveolar surfactant. Activates pneumocytes to synthesize surfactant, which coats the entire respiratory epithelium and directly protects lung function. Increases phosphatidylcholine content in alveolar macrophages, affecting phospholipid metabolism in the lungs, whereas cysteine mucolytics do not have this effect. This product also promotes the synthesis and secretion of gastric surfactant.
(3) Activates the ciliary function of the respiratory mucosa, reducing the adhesion of sputum to cilia and increasing ciliary movement frequency by 10.8%, facilitating the excretion of respiratory secretions. This product also has the effect of increasing antibiotic concentrations in lung tissue and its secretions.
(4) Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties: In vitro studies have shown that ambroxol reduces the secretion of cytokines IL-1, TNF-a, and IF-γ by activated alveolar cells in bronchopulmonary lavage fluid and peripheral blood mononuclear cells; inhibits the production of IL-1 and TNF by human monocytes in vitro; and significantly inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators such as arachidonic acid oxidation products caused by ozone-induced airway hyperresponsiveness. Ambroxol can protect against peroxide-induced lung damage, including asthma, and enhance the antioxidant activity of lung tissue, making it an effective anti-lipid peroxidation agent.
