[Properties]
This product is a white tablet.
[Indications]
It is indicated for memory loss and mild to moderate brain dysfunction caused by various causes, including acute and chronic cerebrovascular disease, brain trauma, and various toxic encephalopathy. It can also be used for children with intellectual disability.
[Dosage and Administration]
Oral administration: 0.8-1.6g (2-4 tablets) three times a day for a course of 4-8 weeks. The dosage for children is halved.
[Adverse Reactions]
Common gastrointestinal adverse reactions include nausea, abdominal discomfort, anorexia, bloating, and abdominal pain. The severity of symptoms is directly related to the dosage. Central nervous system adverse reactions include excitement, irritability, dizziness, headache, and insomnia, but these symptoms are mild and unrelated to the dosage. These symptoms disappear after discontinuation of the drug. Mild liver impairment, manifested as mild elevations in transaminases, has occasionally been observed, but this is unrelated to the dosage.
[Contraindications]
This product is contraindicated in patients with extrapyramidal disorders or Huntington's chorea to avoid exacerbating symptoms.
[Precautions]
Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal dysfunction and reduce the dose appropriately.
[Use in Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women]
This product readily crosses the placenta and is therefore contraindicated in pregnant women; the indication for use in breastfeeding women is unknown.
[Use in Pediatrics]
This product is contraindicated in neonates.

[Drug Interactions]
When used in combination with warfarin, this product may prolong the prothrombin time and induce inhibition of platelet aggregation. In patients receiving anticoagulant therapy, when piracetam is used concomitantly, special attention should be paid to clotting time to prevent bleeding risks, and the dosage and administration of the anticoagulant medication should be adjusted.
[Pharmacological Actions]
This product is a cyclic derivative of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It has similar effects on brain damage caused by physical and chemical factors. It can boost brain ATP, promote acetylcholine synthesis, and enhance the conduction of nerve impulses, thus promoting brain metabolism. It can counteract physical and chemical damage to brain function. It also improves retrograde ejaculation caused by hypoxia. It can enhance memory and improve learning ability. Acute toxicology studies in animals showed no mortality in mice at oral doses exceeding 10g/kg. The median lethal dose (LD50) after intravenous administration was 9.2g/kg. Subacute and chronic toxicology studies revealed no adverse effects on growth and development in rats or dogs. There were no effects on vital internal organs or functions, including the blood, heart, liver, kidneys, and brain.
