This product is an off-white tablet. It is off-white after removing the coating.
[Indications]
For the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and familial hypercholesterolemia.
[Dosage and Administration]
1. Generally, adults take 1-2 mg of pitavastatin calcium orally once daily after meals.
2. The dosage may be increased or decreased based on age and condition. If the LDL level does not decrease significantly, the dosage may be increased. The maximum daily dose is 4 mg.
[Precautions]
1. For patients with liver disorders, the initial dose should be 1 mg/day, with a maximum daily dose of 2 mg. 2. Since rhabdomyolysis may occur with increasing dosage, when increasing the dosage, carefully monitor for increases in CK levels, the presence of myoglobin in the urine, muscle pain, or fatigue, which are early symptoms of rhabdomyolysis.
[Pharmacological Action]
Pitavastatin calcium inhibits hepatic cholesterol synthesis by antagonizing HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway. This promotes the expression of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors in the liver and the uptake of LDL from the blood, thereby lowering total cholesterol. Furthermore, it continuously inhibits cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver, reduces the secretion of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) into the blood, and lowers plasma triglycerides.
