[Pharmacology and Toxicology]
This product is a mild peripheral vasodilator that is gradually hydrolyzed in the body to niacin and inositol. It possesses the pharmacological effects of both niacin and inositol, and has lipid-lowering properties. Its vasodilatory effect is milder and more sustained than that of niacin, without the side effects of niacin, such as flushing and stomach discomfort. This product selectively dilates blood vessels in diseased areas and areas sensitive to cold, while having a lesser dilating effect on normal blood vessels. It also has thrombolytic, anticoagulant, anti-fatty liver, and capillary fragility-reducing effects. Toxicology: This product hydrolyzes in the body into niacin and inositol. The LD50 for niacin is 7g/kg (oral) for rats and 5g/kg (subcutaneous) for rats.
