[Dosage and Administration]
For patients with severe liver disease, take 420 mg daily in three divided doses before meals. For patients with moderate liver disease, take 280 mg daily in two divided doses before meals. The preventive dose is 140 mg daily, taken once daily before meals.
[Adverse Reactions]
Mild diarrhea has occurred in some cases.
[Precautions]
Please read the instructions carefully and use according to your doctor's instructions.
[Pharmacological Action]
This product is used to treat liver disease. Pharmacology: Silymarin has been shown to neutralize toxicity caused by muscimol, α-amanitin (a toxic substance found in the fungus Amanita phalloides), carbon tetrachloride, galactosamine, thioacetamide, and hepatovirus FV3 in various models of toxic liver damage. The therapeutic effects of silymarin are attributed to its several sites of action and mechanisms of action: Silymarin exhibits antioxidant activity due to its ability to capture free radicals. The pathophysiological process of lipid peroxidation (which damages cell membranes) can be interrupted or prevented by silymarin. Furthermore, within damaged hepatocytes, silymarin stimulates protein synthesis and normalizes phospholipid metabolism. Overall, silymarin's greatest contribution is its stabilizing effect on hepatocyte membranes, preventing or avoiding the loss of dissolved cellular components (such as transaminases). Silymarin can also limit the penetration of certain hepatotoxic substances (such as α-amanitin) into the cell interior. The enhanced protein synthesis capacity is due to silymarin stimulating the activity of RNA polymerase I in the cell nucleus, thereby promoting the synthesis of ribosome RNA in hepatocytes and simultaneously leading to the synthesis of large amounts of structural and functional proteins (enzymes). Therefore, silymarin may enhance the repair and regenerative capacity of hepatocytes.
