Product Overview

[Drug Name]
Generic Name: Bifendate Pills
Trade Name: Fujian
English Name: Bifendate Pills
Chinese Pinyin: Lianbenshuangzhi Diwan

[Ingredients]
Main ingredient and chemical name: The main ingredient of this product is bifendate pills, whose chemical name is 4,4-dimethoxy-5,6,5',6'-bis(methylenedioxy)biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester.

[Properties]
Bifendate is a white crystalline powder that is almost soluble in water, very slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol, slightly soluble in acetone, and freely soluble in chloroform or dimethylformamide. This product is a sugar-coated pill.

[Indications]
Clinically used for patients with chronic persistent hepatitis accompanied by elevated ALT. It can also be used for elevated ALT caused by chemical toxins or drugs.

[Dosage and Administration]
Oral: 5 drops, 3 times daily; 6-10 drops, 3 times daily if necessary, for 3 months. Once ALT levels return to normal, increase to 5 drops, 3 times daily, for 3 consecutive months. Children: Oral: 0.5 mg/kg, 3 times daily, for 3-6 months.

[Adverse Reactions]
In some cases, dry mouth, mild nausea, and occasional rash may occur, which generally resolve with the addition of antiallergic medication.

[Contraindications]
Contraindicated in patients with cirrhosis. Use with caution in patients with chronic active hepatitis.

[Precautions]
1. ALT levels may rise in a few patients during medication; increasing the dose can lower them. Some patients may experience a rebound ALT level after discontinuation, but continued medication remains effective.
2. Jaundice and worsening of the condition may occur in some patients during medication, and medication should be discontinued.

[Use in Special Populations]
Precautions for Children: Reduce the dosage for children. Precautions for Pregnancy and Lactation: Contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women.
Precautions for Elderly Patients: Use with caution in elderly patients.

[Drug Interactions]
Combined use with inosine may reduce the rebound effect of this drug on enzymes.

[Pharmacological Actions]
This drug is a hepatitis-lowering drug developed in my country and is an intermediate in the synthesis of Schisandrae Chinensis C. Oral administration of 150-200 mg/kg of this drug to mice alleviates liver damage and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) elevations induced by carbon tetrachloride. It inhibits carbon tetrachloride-induced liver microsomal lipid peroxidation and the conversion of carbon tetrachloride to carbon monoxide, and reduces reduced coenzyme II and oxygen consumption during carbon tetrachloride metabolism, thereby protecting the structure and function of hepatocyte biomembranes. This drug also reduces prednisone-induced elevations in liver ALT and promotes liver regeneration in mice undergoing partial hepatectomy. This enzyme-lowering effect does not directly inhibit serum or liver ALT activity, nor does it accelerate the inactivation of blood ALT; it may be a reflection of reduced liver tissue damage. This product significantly induces cytochrome P450 enzyme activity, thereby enhancing the detoxification of carbon tetrachloride and certain carcinogens. It also improves protein metabolism in some hepatitis patients, increasing albumin and decreasing globulin. It has no effect on negative conversion of HbsAg and HbeAg levels, nor does it reduce enlarged liver and spleen.
