Dextromethorphan hydrobromide in this compound is a centrally acting antitussive that suppresses coughs by inhibiting the medullary cough center. Its antitussive effect is equal to or slightly stronger than that of codeine and is not analgesic or addictive. Guaifenesin glycerol stimulates the gastric mucosa, reflexively increasing bronchial secretions, which helps dilute sputum and facilitate expectoration, thereby eliminating phlegm and relieving cough.
