【Ingredients】
The main ingredient of this product is selegiline hydrochloride.
【Appearance】
This product is a white or nearly white crystalline powder, round or convex, 6 mm in diameter.
【Indications】
Suitable for primary Parkinson's disease. It can be used alone to treat early-stage Parkinson's disease, or in combination with levodopa or with levodopa and peripheral dopa decarboxylase inhibitors. When used in combination with levodopa, it is particularly suitable for treating motor fluctuations.
【Dosage and Administration】
Suitable for treating early-stage Parkinson's disease when used alone, or in combination with levodopa/peripheral dopa decarboxylase inhibitors. The starting dose for both is 5 mg, taken in the morning. The dose of this drug can be increased to 10 mg/day (once in the morning or divided into two doses). If a patient experiences levodopa-like side effects when using levodopa in combination with other medications, the levodopa dose should be reduced.
【Adverse Reactions】
This medication is well tolerated when used alone. There are reports of increased incidence of dry mouth, transient elevation of serum transaminase levels, and sleep disturbances (e.g., insomnia) after taking this medication compared to patients using a placebo. Because this medication can enhance the effect of levodopa, the side effects of levodopa may also increase. When this medication is added to the treatment of patients already taking the maximum tolerated dose of levodopa, involuntary movements, nausea, agitation, confusion, hallucinations, headache, orthostatic hypotension, and dizziness may occur. Dysuria and rash have also been reported. Therefore, potential side effects should be monitored, and the levodopa dose should be reduced by an average of 30% when this medication is added.
【Contraindications】
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of this drug.
【Precautions】
Special caution should be exercised when taking selegiline hydrochloride tablets in patients with unstable hypertension, arrhythmias, severe angina, psychosis, or benign prostatic hyperplasia with dysuria. If taken at excessive doses (more than 30 mg daily), some of the selectivity of monoamine oxidase B receptor (MAO-B) inhibition may be lost, and MAO-B inhibition may begin to increase significantly. Therefore, concurrent use of high doses of selegiline hydrochloride tablets and high-tyramine foods may theoretically increase the risk of hypertension; transient increases in transaminases have been reported during selegiline hydrochloride treatment. 【Drug Interactions】
1. No hypertension was observed when the dose of midopyrene used to treat Parkinson's disease was taken concurrently with tyramine-containing foods.
2. Concomitant use of this product with non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitors may cause severe hypotension.
3. No drug resistance issues have been reported when taken concurrently with the monoamine oxidase A inhibitor moclobemide. However, concurrent use of these medications (MAOA and MAOB inhibitors) and tyramine-containing substances (such as tyramine-containing foods like fermented foods and beverages, cheese, sausages, cured meats, game, liver, beef broth, salted fish, beans and peas, sauerkraut, and yeast products) may slightly increase the risk of hypertension.
4. There are no extensive literature reports on the concurrent use of this product with moclobemide; these two medications should not be taken together.
5. There are reports of serious reactions, such as ataxia and tremor, when taken concurrently with midopyleb and fluoxetine.
